BrewCo Manhattan Beach- The Simple Things in Life

It’s undeniable that one of the perks of living in LA is that you are 20 minutes away from the nearest beach. Manhattan Beach is by far my favorite LA beach. Large stretches of sand, beach volleyball, surfing, and of course…plenty of dinning options. In an effort to not be intrinsically traditional, I tend to go to the familiar local hangouts Wahoo’s Fish Taco and Manhattan Pizzeria when I’m in the area, I decided to try one of Manhattan Blvd’s newest (relatively speaking) restaurants…BrewCo. 15 minutes after taking our seats (friends=family style dinning= variety of yum) we had a smorgasbord in front of us. My first bite went to the BBQ pulled pork sliders stopped with a spicy coleslaw and served with shoe string fries and a pickle. Sweet and spicy is always a good combo but overall it failed to impress with its less than tender BBQ pulled pork. The shrimp tacos topped with fresh avocados, cabbage and chopped tomatoes and served with the traditional sides… mexican rice and black beans was exactly what you’d expect flavorful and filling. Last but not least I had to try at lest of the buffalo chicken strips. The fumes were wafting off the dish throughout the entire meal and I had a feeling I was leaving the best for last. Buffalo and pepper on every bite. A fantastic combination of spices both tangy, tender, crispy and clearly the best plate of the three. It’s true what they say, the simple things in life are often the best.

BuenGastronomy taking flight with Birds

When I first moved to the Los Feliz area I was determined to explore the vastly cultural surrounding area. Being 25 years old I was phasing out of my crazy night lifestyle but not quite ready to hang my mini dress and stilettos for an apron and cook book. To my delight, I quickly discovered the endless amount of restaurants that packed every street and which offered a range of dinning experiences. I’ve enjoyed Thai, Peruvian, Italian, French, Vegan and so much more all within a 5 block radius. Exploring restaurants, lounges, dinners, cafes, and bars quickly became my favorite pastime week after week. One of my first discoveries was Birds. An American style restaurant with a twist. Right smack in the middle of Franklin Village and always brimming with excitement (especially around 11pm Happy Hour), this quickly became a favorite. It only seems right that I start of this blog with the restaurant that started out my dinning love affair with Los Angeles. If you venture to this area make sure you try their famous onion rings (half a foot or foot long tower available) and their chicken combos which allow you to pick from a long list of delicious sides. Visiting Birds is always a guaranteed good time and plate full of deliciousness.
